Infopreneur
You have probably heard of information products, maybe even information marketing but you might be wondering
what is an inforprenuer?
An infopreneur is a personal who creates information products or provides an information service based on their
expertise/passion and sells them on the internet.
Information products come in a range of different formats including:
- Text (ebook/booklets/reports/white papers)
- Audio
- Video
- Content site (like this one that provides quality information)
- Print on demand (POD) book like those for sale at lulu.com
As an infopreneur you have a love of creating information on a particular topic and you will focus on writing
for a particular niche on a particular topic.
You are NOT an infopreneur if you sell other people's information product - when you do that you are an
affiliate marketer which is different.
Infopreneurs sit and write and create then sell. They make products that they sell online. We all have a
particular hobby, expertise or information that we can share with other people and everyone has the ability to
create information products with the right support.
Information Services are services during which we provide information to our customer
including
- ecoaching
- web-based learning (teleseminars, webinars)
- elearning/workshops
- membership sites
- social networks
Creating and selling information products is a great way for your to build an internet business. Four great
reasons why being an infopreneur is worth doing
- Once create your product once and sell it over and over and over again for years.
- The profit is all yours - when you sell your information product you keep all the profit unlike traditional
publishers that give you a very small percentage of your own book!
- It is a great low cost business to get started in - all you need is to type and to turn your wordpress
document into a pdf
- You don't need much to get started - a domain, hosting, a graphic for your product
What is an infopreneur doing on a typical day?
This will vary from person to person but a true infopreneur will want to break up their time to include
- Product creation
- Marketing
- Traffic generation
- Product promotion
It is important as an infopreneur that you focus on all of them, too many people create products that they never
get round to marketing so don't make any money with. Time has to be allocated not just to creating products but
also to sell them too and to ensure a continous flow of traffic to them.
10 Step Quick Start List To Information Creation
Here is a quick tips guide to creating your own information product:
1. Research is important - you want to make sure that there is a demand for your product BEFORE you create it.
You can search sites like Amazon to see what their best sellers are or go into online forums and groups to see what
type of question people are asking or what they are searching for. You can try the news sites and of course you use
a keyword research tool to find the most popular keywords
2. Now you need to think about what your selling angle will be for your information product, think up a name for
your product and decide on what your unique selling point is. Why would someone buy your book rather than another
one on the same topic? It is important that you know exactly what makes your product great because you will need to
tell your potential customers that too!
3. Plan your information product. A plan will help you stay focused on writing. It can help to make a 2
column table - on the left write the chapter heading and on the right write out what you will be focusing on in
that chapter.
4. Get writing - this is the longest part of the process. Now it is time to write out all the different parts of
your information product until it is complete. Then you need to proof read it (I find it helps if I read it out
loud - it helps me check for errors!) and make sure it is free from errors. If you can get someone else to do that
for you even better. Ask a few of your friends to read it so you can get an idea of whether it made sense to people
and how it helped them.
5. You are now ready to buy your domain and it is a good idea to try and get a domain based on the keywords you
came up with at the beginning so that you are found when people are searching. You also need to get yourself
some hosting too.
6. With your hosting and domain in place now is the time to get your website or blog up.
7. Writing the copy that will sell your information product comes next. A good headline will draw your visitors
in and your subheadline should include your unique selling point
8. Once up it is time to get visitors to your site using a number of different techniques. Some of the popular
ones are article marketing, video marketing, pay per click to name a few
9. Enjoy the sales that come in as people begin to buy your information product.
10. Start it all over again with another information product.
