Restaurants In Hammersmith
A local search marketing example
I wanted to provide a local search example and have chosen restaurants in Hammersmith. The idea is to give you some insight into how local search marketing might work for your local business - remember this is all made up and not real so you could end up with more customers or less - that will depend on your business and your service! Of course what it really relies on is your business being found in the first place! If you haven't considered focusing on local search marketing hopefully it will give you some idea of what might be possible to help you generate some more local business online. Local search example : Restaurants In Hammersmith Tom is going on a first date and is meeting his date in an area he is not familiar with - he wants to find a great place to eat so he types in "Restaurants in Hammersmith" Now let's say you are that restaurant in Hammersmith firstly you need to know WHAT is being typed in by the people searching for you online . Site Build It already have that built into their system but if you don't have a Site Build it Local Business website then you can use another keyword tool (one you buy provides better results) For this example I am going to use a free keyword tool provided by Google. It is not the best thing to rely on for your results but it is useful to get some idea about whether anyone is searching for your local business before you invest in anything else! So looking at the image below you can see that

Restaurants in Hammersmith was searched for 1,900 in January and Restaurant in Hammersmith 590 times Here is your first lesson : Never guess! If you are optimising your site by writing articles, building squidoo lenses/hubpages and/or creating videos on your restaurant in Hammersmith you want to make sure you also include words like "we are one of the many restaurants in Hammersmith" etc - there is a big difference in search results between having and NOT having that letter S on the end of restaurant! Restaurants in Hammersmith So according to this Google tool we are looking at 1,900 searches in January 2010 Let us say out of those 1,900 50% click on your website. That is 950 people a month (extra) and bearing in mind that Jan is usually a slow month for most things thats not bad! 50% of 1,900 = 950 monthly website visitors Now let us say (because we are playing and making this up) that 20% of those 950 people who found you decided to visit your restaurant. 20% of 950 = 190 additional customers per month Bear in mind that surveys have revealed that over 60% of people who perform a local search go on to buy something.* You now have 190 additional customers each month coming to your wonderful restaurant in Hammersmith. I have no idea how much you charge but at a guess let us assume that a starter, meal with a drink and desert will cost £35 per head. So based on one person that is 190 x £35 = £6,650 in additional monthly revenue £6,650 x 12 = £79,800 additional revenue per year Now remember Tom had a date so there will be two of them and restaurants can have anything from just one person to a table of 20 or more! Imagine someone searching because there are 20 of them looking for some place local to eat. If your restaurant is near a conference center this isn't an impossible dream! All that extra revenue from having a website that is optimised for the search engines and contains high quality content that your website visitors and the search engines will enjoy. Local search is growing. The time to get on the web is now! Don't under estimate the power of the internet. Other ideas to consider
Remember that bringing in local customers is not about having them visit once and never again - there are other things you can do to make sure they return. It is all about being creative! For example : 1. Have a coupon designed (or get a teenager to design one) and let people download it from your site. Make it a 5% off discount on your first visit or 10% if they eat at your restaurant on a certain day (your slow day!). 2. Make it easy. Let people sign up to view your full menu and order in advance online or even book a table online. Make it as easy as possible for people to eat with you! Tell them if they book a table online and order in advanced you will take 5% off their bill. 3. Now you have their name and email send them offers, let them know before they sign up that they will also continue to receive emails from you and special offers. Send them offers that will bring them back like a free glass of wine with their valentine meal or bring a friend get 50% off. What other ideas can you think of for your business? If you are a van hire company, a florist, a local printing company - how can you get them hooked online and then make sure they keep coming back?
